LONELY WITHOUT YOU
It’s a lonely period this time of year,
Since you’ve gone away;
You’ve left me to face it all alone,
How I wish that you could stay.
I’ll still put the fairy on the tree,
The way you used to do,
But it’s purely out of habit,
…It reminds me of you.
There’s no one to pull a cracker with,
Over the dinner table;
No point in cooking, just for myself,
Although I’m perfectly able.
No presents to open in the morn.,
When I finally do awake;
No pleasure in watching T.V. shows,
No mince pies to bake.
I look at your photo and remember the times
When we’d gather round the tree,
And give out all the presents
To the family.
But now you’ve left me grieving,
Remembering times that we once had;
All held within that picture,
…That’s why I feel so sad.
Nobody could ever replace you,
Because you meant so much to me;
So I’ll sit here, staring blankly
At my little Christmas tree.
