Today I wished to see you
I remembered the things we had to do
Together, me and you
I thought of all the memories we had
And the things we had planned
The sights we were sure to see
And laughter that had yet to be
I pulled the blankets closer to my head
Lying on my bed

I know how much you loved me
And life is about love you see
Without it we don’t survive
Lose all track of time
And the happiness you gave to me
It made me shine; it set me free
But life must end someday, anyhow
And I guess that someday’s now

But please don’t feel sad
Because you never have
Don’t stop smiling now
On account of my heaven gown
I’ll wear it when I go
It will shine a sparkling glow
Better than the dress I had in mind
For the wedding that hasn’t come this time

So when the sun rises tomorrow
And I’m not here to see it show
It’s okay; it’s alright
I’m in a better place tonight
I’ll see you when you go
That's not so close, I know
But when you come here as well
They will ring the bells
I can’t wait for the chance
Together we’ll dance

So smile soft and close your eyes
Its only a matter of time
But until then my dear
I’ll be in your heart so near
Until then, my dear
Always dear

And yet. Funeral Poems by Dick Underwood

There's an emptiness in my soul
Like the hunger pain of someone starving;
But I'm not hungry for food,
I'm hungry for you.

There's a blindness in my eyes
Like the darkness of someone who can't see;
But I'm not in the darkness of light,
I'm in the darkness of your absence.

There's a silence in my voice
Like the silence of someone who can't speak;
But I'm not silent through being mute,
I'm silent because I can't speak to you.

There's a deafness in my ears
Like the deafness of someone who can't hear;
But I'm not deaf through not hearing,
I'm deaf because I can't hear you.

There's a numbness in my touch
Like the numbness of someone who has lost all feeling;
But I'm not numb through loosing my feelings,
I'm numb through no longer being able to feel you.

And yet …

Your memory still feeds me.
I still see you in my mind's eye.
I still speak to you,
And I still see you in my dreams.
My heart is still warmed,
From the nearness of your love.

Death cannot take away
The memories we have shared;
And time will not destroy them either.

As long as I live,
My memories of you will bind us together.
Death can only separate us physically.
But emotionally, and lovingly, and spiritually,
We will continue living and growing old together.

I only said "I love you",
If only I'd said more.
But in that phrase "I love you",
Is everything for sure.

It means I'll miss you dearly,
your voice and gentle touch.
It means I'll miss you daily,
so very, very much.

If I'd have had more warning,
I'd have told you such a lot,
But you went without the telling.
much more than just a jot.

If I had been more forthright,
And if I had made a start.
I'd have poured out words forever,
And told you all my heart.

But I only said "I love you",

Friend, please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day
And within your heart I long to stay.

My body is gone but I'm always near.
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
As long as you keep me alive in your heart.

I'll never wander out of your sight-
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach-
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.

I'm the colourful leaves when Autumn's around
And the pure white snow that blankets the ground.

I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
And you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.

When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
You can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
And you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.

I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
And the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
